In music, a backbeat is a syncopated accentuation on the "off" beat. An emphasized backbeat defined the genre of R&B in the late periods of 1940, which lead it to be a defining characteristic of Rock and Roll.
BackBeat is also the name of a youth radio station in Hamilton, New Zealand which was operated by the Hamilton Youth Education Trust.
In pop culture, the term 'Backbeat' has been used as a title for the biography of Rock and Roll drummer Earl Palmer and a 1994 British-German drama film set in the early days of the Beatle's early days in Germany.
